A root canal is a treatment for infection in the innermost layer of your tooth, the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue which extends from the crown of the tooth to the tip of the roots. The pulp is very important during development, but once a tooth is fully mature, it can survive without the pulp. If you have an infected tooth, you may need a root canal to clear out the infection.
Avoid any chewing until the anesthetic wears off after a couple of hours.
A permanent crown may be recommended following your root canal. If so, avoid chewing on your treated tooth until a permanent crown is in place. Avoid sticky, hard foods & favor the opposite side of your mouth. Unless noted by your dentist, it is critical to have a crown placed on your root canal treated tooth as soon as possible.
It’s normal for some discomfort following a root therapy. Take over counter medicine to help with any discomfort.
